Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General ABA Questions
-
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach tailored to the individual’s needs that helps individuals learn new skills and overcome challenges that impact everyday life. By understanding the “why” behind behaviors and using positive reinforcement, ABA boosts communication, confidence, and joy—both inside and outside of therapy sessions.
-
ABA helps individuals grow in meaningful, observable ways. Families often see improved behavior, stronger communication, increased independence, and more confidence in social situations. It’s not just about therapy—it’s about practical skills that last.
-
ABA is not just for individuals with autism. ABA can help with any behavior for any person, however in order to obtain insurance coverage, a diagnosis of autism or various developmental disabilities or delays is typically required.
-
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is your family’s guide and advocate. They assess needs, create individualized plans, supervise therapy sessions, and ensure goals are tailored to each individual’s strengths, challenges, and family priorities.
-
An RBT is a certified therapist who works under the supervision of a BCBA. They are the frontline staff members working with the individuals we serve on a daily basis.
-

We honor all forms of communication. Every behavior has meaning, and our goal is to help individuals express themselves confidently and authentically.
-
Sessions are tailored to each individual. Sessions are often play-based, with some structure built in. Parents collaborate with BCBA’s to set goals that focus on meaningful, individualized skills. Our RBT’s take data throughout our interactions to track their progress.

Complete insurance approval if needed
Begin services and start seeing real-life growth
-
It depends on your insurance, but we’ll guide you step by step so you feel confident and supported.
-
We start with the most important question: “Why do you want us here “ and “what would you like to see change in your life?”
The first assessment appointment is typically about two hours and is scheduled in your home, so we can meet you and your child where you’re most comfortable. In many cases, we also schedule a second visit in the community to better understand social skills and how your child navigates real-world environments. From there, we work together to create goals that reflect your family’s priorities, values, and everyday life.

As children are learning to communicate and gaining their independence, tantrums are normal in these early years. As your child's communication and self-control improves, tantrums should become less common. Consider talking to your physician if tantrums seem to be excessive throughout the day, or severe in nature. Most children begin to have fewer tantrums by age 5. If tantrums get worse after age 4, talk with your child's healthcare professional.
